The TRISTATE event, as expected, lived up to its expectations with the weather co-operating and All three teams eager to start the game the first match was played between BTTC (BOSTON) and BACC (MARYLAND). BTCC was comfortable reaching the target. The next match was between BTCC and USCC.
Captain Thava put his game plan into works as it was reflected on the field USSC was in control throughout the game. In all areas of the game especially noticeable bowling from Mickey and the entire team fielding was sharp. Mickey as a bowler who was in the best form was the wrecker in chief with four wickets. USSC was given a target of 73 to win. Even though USSC lost few wicket early in the innings, out Veteran Uthayaraj played a sensible inning to take USSC home to win the first match of the tournament.
Right after Beating BTTC USSC was put into the field to play BACC. BACC won the toss n put us to bat first and with the young BACC bowling attack we managed to score 75 runs. BACC was given a tough target, as to reach the score in 8 overs. Once Thava took the field the USSC right from the beginning put BACC under pressure with line and length bowling from the entire team.
There were some outstanding catches the one to remember was from the master Ajay on the slips which was the turning point and BTCC was restricted as they were losing wickets and didn’t reach the target. USSC put the best out to compete with the BTCC youngsters and came up with the satisfactory victory.
The two finalist (Boston & New Jersey) were decided based on the earlier games played between Boston, Maryland and NJ.BTTC winning the toss and putting the hosts in. Coming into the all important final, it was evident that USSC fitness came in to question after playing the previous two games and playing the final was the Third match with very limited breaks.
As the sun lost its battle to the dark clouds we didn’t have time between matches and we started the finals right after the BACC’s game. USSC was put to field by BTCC Thava put his bowling attack, not like the previous two matches BTCC stood grounds with the USSC bowling attack as Sugu stayed in the crease. Although USSC fielding was the best through out the day in the final game some of the catches were dropped which change the game. BTTC set the target of 85.
As the darkness filling the grounds USSC batsman showing exhaustion as a result of earlier games didn’t start a good batting stand as early wickets fell. It looked like the struggles of the middle order were returning to haunt them at the most crucial stage of final game.
The asking rate was going up, but they reduced the number of dot balls and tried to construct a partnership Jeya woke up the crowd with his highlights hits charged down and lofted it for a huge six of putting the ball over the boundary repeatedly. It was a crucial moment because it swung the momentum in USSC’s favour. Jeya and Vithun were about the recovery in a mature fashion. One could see the BTCC n bowlers were still in their element with a number of good balls. It came down to the last over and USSC didn’t get the required runs.
While we heap praises on Jaya’s brilliant effort in the finals, we must not forget the importance of entire team playing well under the leadership of Thava throughout the day.
We had wonderful display of cricket throughout the day. USSC beat both BTCC and BCC and came up short in the Finals with an exciting finish. At times the weather was threatening on Saturday but it ended up nice to go along with all the great food and Drinks!
The stage is set for next year……………………………………….

Maryland Triangular series:
We hit the road early Saturday morning to participate on triangular series in
A good start for the home team by winning both games.
This put both visiting teams under pressure, whoever wins that game will play the finals against BCC.
BTCC won the toss and decided to bat, Boston played there game as the same approach focusing on keep the runs coming by running between the wkts and put up a good target of 74 in twelve over’s. USSC started slow but didn’t lose any early WKTS. But by the time half way through the innings pressure started the mount as the run rate went up to eight and over. But then Jaya got us going with batting displaying flashes of brilliance which were so on display and attacked every ball with Uthaya playing the support role and by the end of eleven over’s we just needed three runs to win the game which we got comfortably two balls to spare. The win put us in the finals with BCC.
We had a mini break and went in putting BCC bat first. The Finals was the highly anticipated as both sides played admirably, with fierce tenacity to begin with. Our blowing attack was sloppy in which gave the BCC to have a healthy to start and we were put on the defense for the rest of the bowling attack. BCC batted well and got to the score of 102 in twelve over’s which put us on an attacking batting style only way to reach that score. We lost some early quick WKTS and again their youngsters and a brilliant bowling spell has each one of them bowled really well and at the end of twelve we only scored 57 which gave the BCC comfortable win and the championship. Over all we played a lot of competitive cricket there and it’s a tough place to win.
But we know the indentify of the BCC changed with the including the youngsters in the team n team played very well at home and handle the pressure very well as their youngsters were coached well, it was amazing to see them making unbelievable catches. The bowling unit was outstanding, they bowled with real intensity and proved that they are a class youngsters going to give us headache for the near future and the batting is good too.
We have lofty standards as a team and I thought we made great progress. The
A BIG THANKS to ALL of YOU WHO JOINED, We thank you for making the trip with all the busy schedule and gave us the valuable time.
Now the fun Part……..
It seems as though lose, draw or win the boys from “down under” from USSC , BTCC and BCC Impressive enough is that all participants and with no slight sign of bitterness of the outcome joined together as one big family and was in the mood to celebrate. That’s what SPORT IS ALL ABOUT. Defeat however was soothed somewhat by the after-party, which started in the ELDORODO clubhouse and ended in the early hours of the morning…….This where a Picture is worth thousands words…please check out the pictures….you will see the some of them were guests, some of them were spectators n some of them contributors everyone any possible outfit you can imagine but this is because we truly enjoy coming together, celebrate and enjoy life…………
Big Thanks to those who took their vehicles and special thanks our designated drivers who took us home back safely after a long drunk/tiring day…....
Over all it was a FUNTASTIC DAY!!!!

The USSC won the TRISTATE championship game, defeating the BTCC in the final game. The TRISTATE event, as anticipated, lived up to its expectations in the final match it was USSC that edged it a with a one-run win in a tense and nervy finish against BTCC.
The two finalist (Boston & New Jersey) were decided based on the earlier games played between Boston, Maryland and NJ.
USSC’s captain Balaji won the toss for the championship game and decided to field first. The openers of the BTCC rose to the occasion playing in a definitive partnership of 48. While it look like the game was slipping away an already fired-up TVEL from the earlier matches snared two quick wickets and with the help of Thava and Jaya bowling on line who were also involved in the middle order collapse of the BTCC was restricted to a 84 in sixteen over’s.
The USSC openers PRAKASH and THAVA didn’t shy away from responsibility, exhibiting their undoubted big-hitting skills putting up an opening stand. Prakash who scored an unbeaten 64 runs of brutal but controlled aggression knocks in the match against Maryland continue to play well. BTCC had a break after the openers were gone and two more quick wickets fell it was it was time for Balaji to join Skanda in the crease. Balaji played captain innings by bringing in some much needed quick runs. While it looks like USSC had a smooth sailing we lost another wicket and run rate was going up. It was time for Ramesh to get in and do some damage control. Required run rate was climbing up and at that time of pressure Ramesh blazed a six we should say a mighty heaves out of the park which changed the game. Ramesh soon fell it was time for veteran Rajkumar to join Skanda in the nervous time of the game. While the local fans came to cheer their team they were on the edge of their seats as the game came down to the last over needing seven runs. Despite iffy weather conditions, cloudy skies and a light drizzle and the threat of more rain to come down anytime, we went into the last over need seven runs with Skanda and Rajkumar facing the tough bowling of their star bowler Senthuran. It was very tense movement as it came down to wire the last ball. USSC needed to two runs to win the game. Skanda was somehow placed his bat on the perfectly good length ball to the point and Balaji who was running between the wickets with Rajkumar for Skanda was able to complete the required the two runs to pull off a memorable win.
This Victory is the result of the contributions from each and every member of USSC. Balaji truly earned this championship with his leadership.
USSC won all three matches played.
Best Fielder: Mitesh (Maryland)
Best Batsman :Prakash (USSC)
Best All Rounder: Bhavan (BTCC)

It gives us immense pleasure to inform you that our very own cricket team has emerged at the top in the recently concluded tournament hosted by Queens Tamil Club on memory of Jenibert Soosapillai. We would like to applaud the entire team for this achievement. This is the first tournament we played under the new leadership of Balaji. Our first tournament was a learning experience as the new captain put in place a new concept. Balaji set that as a new goal and we trained hard and prepared like hard for the tournament.
First we played against the last years Champions Queens; we won the game against the excellent and experienced past champions. Our entire team fought hard in all three areas bowling, batting and excellent fielding. Its came down to the wire and we emerged as winners.
Second we played Staten Island team, who is a superior opponent as in the past years who always gave us a handful to deal with. Due to the preparation and planning we were able to successfully control them to a reasonable score. Again we did great with Bowling and Fielding. Even though we have struggled at times, we comfortably got the required runs and beat them.
(Scores will be posted under the forum)
This was a huge achievement for the entire team we won our first two matches, and celebrated with the winning trophy! We have done it! Our lads looked at each other in shock and uncontained happiness, almost hyperventilating with the excitement – it meant so much to them. Great emotions all round.
We had come to give it our best and challenge for the Championship.
Let’s continue the success……
So we had one trophy in the bag – brilliant –

Founded in 1989, The United Star Sports Club is one of the oldest clubs in the Middlesex County in NJ, devoted to the playing Cricket, Volleyball, Tennis, Soccer and Flag football. The Club was formed by a group of young men of Srilankan Tamil descent at the Rutgers University of New Brunswick. With the wish to continue to play together after their graduation, they formed the Club. Now the club consists of expatriates from India and Sri Lanka.
Long on enthusiasm for the games we were short on funds and for years of our existence we did not have a playing field to call it “Home’. We would meet and play Cricket on any ground available and thus we “wandered" from New Brunswick, New Jersey, to South Brunswick, New Jersey. Now we as the residents of South Brunswick, play at Tall Timbers, South Brunswick, NJ which provides a "home ground."
The Club exists to encourage and enable all ethnics of South Brunswick residents to participate in competitive Cricket, Flag football, Volleyball, Soccer and Tennis.
